 Grassroots Events Minimize

The Grassroots Fundraising Program is for individuals, groups, businesses, schools and clubs - anyone who is interested in raising funds for First Descents by holding events or participating in established events, such as marathons or triathlons.

Events can include fun runs and walks, bicycle rides, silent auctions, or other organized activities. Aside from events, you can create a letter writing campaign or set-up a booth to raise funds and awareness at a local community event, such as a fair or picnic. The possibilities are endless!

If you would like to raise funds for First Descents, we will send you online tools to assist you in your fundraising. These tools include a fundraising logo, media kit (which includes a sample press release and sample solicitation letters), informational pieces and more! We also utilize Active.com for you to set up your own event webpage that will link to our event calendar.

Current Grassroots Events

Syracuse Sigma Phi Epsilon Reunion

EddyFlower Vertical Challenge

Pueblo Paddle-A-Thon

It is very important for First Descents to be aware of fundraising events that are being held for our benefit. First Descents will assist you any way we can, but we do not have the capacity to plan, schedule or organize your event. Thank you for understanding our limitations in this situation.

If you would like to organize or participate in a grassroots fundraising event to support First Descents please email info@firstdescents.org

Syracuse Sigma Phi Epsilon Brothers help keep the Memory of Allan Goldberg Alive Minimize

The long awaited Reunion is taking place at the Crawford Park Mansion in Rye Brook NY on Saturday September 27th. Brothers are getting together to catch up on old times, but will also use this as an opportunity to help raise funds for First Descents, and the name of their beloved brother Al Goldberg.

While most of us will always remember the great times had on Comstock Ave, the Fraternity was founded on Brotherly love and the ability for us to help others. We encourage you to keep that going by coming to the reunion and if you can, pledge to help First Descents.

We are hopful that we will not only use this as an excuse to get together, but also a means to keep the memory of Al alive.

TO SECURE YOUR SPOT for the Reunion, please send a check make out to Andy Castellano.

 The Pueblo Paddle-A-Thon Minimize

The Pueblo Paddle-A-Thon will be held in the Pueblo whitewater Park in Pueblo, Colorado on Saturday July 12, 2008 from 10am-3pm.

Contact Bryan Kelsen (719.406.1331 or bryankelsen@msn.com) to volunteer or to register and get pledge forms.Pledge forms are also available at The Edge kayak shop at 107 N. Union Avenue in Pueblo 719 583-2021.  You can get updates and more info at http://www.pueblopaddleathon.blogspot.com

Boaters who take part in the Pueblo Paddle-A-Thon will be asked tochoose to paddle one of three predetermined distances. The distances are 5, 10 or 15 laps of the half-mile Pueblo Whitewater Park. This way participants solicit pledges and they will collect payment before the event eliminating the need to return to collect the pledge. So pick your distance and solicit pledges according to that distance.

The portion of the lap that is the paddling, takes between 7 & 10minutes to complete. A flatbed trailer will shuttle boaters and boats back to the top of the course for their next lap.

The Pueblo Paddle-A-Thon will once again be an ACA event. Paddlers who are not ACA members will need to pay a one-day membership fee of $10 as well as fill out a waiver to take part. ACA members should remember to bring their cards with them.

Each boater must raise a minimum of $50 to take part in the event. There will be prizes awarded to the top fundraisers (A Dagger Agent 6.4kayak and other cool schwag.) Each boater will receive a t-shirt at registration when they turn in their money. For every $50 raised a ticket is placed in the bowl for the schwag drawing. The top 3 fundraisers will get to pick their first prize in the order of their finish.
